Answering the call into the Light Forest
Forests are places of magic and wonder.
When I close my eyes and picture myself in a forest I feel submerged in a cacophony of sounds, frequencies, and an energy of aliveness. The cool comfort of trees standing tall and still, letting light in for all beings in the forest to thrive. Forests and jungles are where life happens at every speed, just look down at the forest floor. Life and death, transformation, resurrection, the entire timeline of the universe takes places every moment; it is humbling to behold.
When I was a child I watched the Jungle Book on repeat everyday, apparently finding renewed wonder in seeing Mogli find himself with a little help from his furry friends. Like Mogli, I too gave up the forest, enchanted by the flashing lights of cities and the scent of people.
Now I find myself back at the forest edge. Hearing a deep call from within to return home. From where I stand the forest feels both familiar and unknown. Dangers and discomfort lie ahead, says the doubting voice in the head. Yet there is a deeper knowing that all the life potentialities still lie waiting inside beyond these challenges. In Joseph Campbell’s words:
And where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; and where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence, where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world. (The Hero with a Thousand Faces)
The name of this project - Light Forest
The name Light Forest is inspired in part by the Dark Forest hypothesis from Liu Cixin's 3 Body Problem sci-fi trilogy which likens the universe to a 'dark forest' where civilizations across the galaxy live in state of fear and silence to avoid destruction by higher alien species. I'd like to probe that notion by shining a Light through the imagined darkness in the forest and find a connection to life that is truly authentic and free of fear. This is our source to make paradigm shifts to the systems and cultures of our planet.
